The Keble Experience

EARLY BOOKING DISCOUNTS AVAILABLE FOR DECEMBER 2010 AND JANUARY 2011!

We are pleased to offer accommodation in the comfortable student study bedrooms of Keble College, which are located around stunning tranquil Quads in our Grade 1 listed buildings designed by the Victorian architect, William Butterfield, as well as in our modern award winning buildings.

Whilst not equipped to four star hotel standards - no televisions or trouser presses - we can guarantee clean and comfortable bedrooms with tea & coffee making facilities, towels, toiletries, card operated telephones and free internet access points.

All of the college buildings, both Victorian and modern, contain bedroom accommodation. Due to the age of the buildings most of the Victorian rooms are awaiting refurbishing. However, we hope the spectacular views compensate for their "homely character".  Our more modern buildings have either been refurbished within the last few years or are being given a spruce up this summer.  Smoking is not permitted in any building within the College.

Rooms are assigned when a booking is received and we do try to accommodate specific requests so please let us know your preferences regarding which block you prefer when you make your booking.  Please note that we do not offer self catering facilities.

Ground floor rooms as well as lifts in our modern buildings makes us suitable for those with restricted mobility.  All rooms are serviced daily and our bed and breakfast rate includes a cooked breakfast served in our magnificent Gothic dining hall - the longest in Oxford.

History to the present day

Founded in 1870 in memory of John Keble, a central figure in the controversial Oxford Movement which sought to recover the Catholic heritage of the Church of England, Keble is one of the largest colleges in Oxford. Although the College has produced many notable Anglican leaders, it is no longer formally tied to the Church of England and no longer are the Fellows, or the Warden, beholden to an external Council of ecclesiastical worthies.

Keble now has over 600 students, both graduates and undergraduates who come from a great variety of social and educational backgrounds, and from diverse parts of the UK, Europe and further overseas. It is noted for both its academic and sporting successes and its music, notably the Chapel Choir, which is among the best in Oxford.

(A booklet, priced at £4.00, detailing the full history of Keble College can be purchased at the Lodge along with postcards and other Keble merchandise)

Dining and drinking

Our rates include an English breakfast served at your table in our magnificent Gothic dining hall - the longest in Oxford.

A two course set dinner, using fresh seasonal produce and prepared under the supervision of the College's experienced Executive Chef, may be available during vacations only at the special price of £10.25 per person including VAT. We offer a select list of wines as well as bottled water for sale to accompany your meal.

Bookings for dinner may be made in the Lodge when you check in but it must be prior to 3pm daily.  We are unable to accept advance bookings for dinner. However, if you would like dinner on the day of arrival, we can accept a telephone booking on the day.  Please call the Porters Lodge on 01865 272727 before 3pm to check availability and menu.  Payment for dinner will be taken on arrival.

The College Bar is a contemporary Grade 2* listed glass building nestled in the pretty Hayward Quad with indoor and outdoor seating.  It is generally open every day providing a relaxing space in colourful surroundings for guests to unwind after a busy day. Check in the Lodge for hours of opening.

Grounds and gardens

Keble boasts four delightful quads each with its own character and gardens.  From the Liddon Quad - one of the largest in Oxford - to the more intimate Pusey Quad.  Newman Quad with its herbaceous border and the Hayward Quad where drinks are served in the summer complete the quartet.

All have chairs and benches where guests can sit and enjoy the peace and quiet as well as the magnificent surroundings.

Other facilities

All bedrooms have an ethernet point for which a cable is required - available from the Lodge for a small charge.  We do not offer a WiFi network access.

Telephones in rooms are card operated and the Lodge sells cards which may be topped up as required although any telephone charge card with an 0800 access number can be used.

Customer feedback

We guarantee that all our feedback is genuine and can only be submitted by people who have booked through our websites.

Sarah Rigby, July 2010: A great experience. A warm welcome from the lodge and a very comfortable stay.

Mrs Jean Bincliffe, July 2010: Clearly University rooms will be a little care worn, however, everything I needed was provided for and Keeble buiding and grounds are beautiful. Breakfast in The Great Hall was a fun experience with the chance to meet many lovely and interesting people. Overall I had a good experience and would seek to do this again.

LYNN ATKINS, July 2010: Very small room, which was quite cramped and hot for 2 people. Ok for 1. However, bathroom was nice and well equipped and view from both more than made up for the fairly spartan accommodation, Keble College itself was lovely and the grounds, bar and lovely Grand Hall and chapel much enjoyed.

Pablo Gutierrez, July 2010: Very good experience.

Mrs Val Zakian, July 2010: My friend (above) did the booking, so I can't really comment on the use of the website. The whole Keble experience was very agreeable and I would certainly hope to return for another weekend in the wonderful city of Oxford.

Alison Tovell, July 2010: I enjoyed my stay at Keble very much - beautiful surroundings and a good standard of accommodation and service. Just one comment regarding noise - a constant thrumming (some kind of generator?) throughout the night.

Mary-Lou Richards, July 2010: Staying at Keble was a delightful experience.

Mrs Val Zakian, July 2010: Positive: The overall experience of staying in hall was very enjoyable. The staff was helpful. The room space was excellent. Negative: The matress was somewhat broken down and uncomfortable. the loo flush was somewhat inadequate. Comment: It would have been nice to have a radio in the room. The towels were changed each day in spite of my not leaving them on the floor. the soap was also renewed each day - not necessary; one does not use a whole tablet each day.

Baldicchi Maurizio, July 2010: Staying at Keble has been a great experience for us. The room was simple but clean, the breakfast room was stunnig and there was a lot of choice. The central position of the College made the visit of Oxford very easy.

Jean-Marc Taing, July 2010: Friendly staff at the porters' lodge, great rooms (booked a double ensuite and a standard single), great breakfast, all of this in a beautiful college!

Rachel Davies, July 2010: Absolutley brilliant! Everyone in the party wants to go back! Can't believe such a brilliant breakfast, too - can't fault it!

Mike Hutchinson, July 2010: Would definitely book again

Henri Papenfus, July 2010: I thank you for making our CORESTA Seniors such a successful, enjoyable affair. The 'University Experience', our theme for the reunion, was made real by staying at Keble. Every one of our group was full of praise for the arrangements and experience you provided. I thoroughly recommend your B & B to all serious visitors to Oxford and especially to those who have never had the opportunity to live in College.

W. FRASER, July 2010: Porters in the lodge deserve special praise for their charming interpersonal skills, highly efficient organisation and intuitive helpfulness at all times - thank you!

Roland Cartwright, July 2010: The staff in the Porter's Office at Keble were particularly helpful. We very much enjoyed our stay and would stay again.

Robert Willoughby, July 2010: Sunday breakfast service much better than Monday (more proactive!)

Lynne Matthews, July 2010: We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and will certainly stay with you again if we visit Oxford. We appreciated the friendly and helpful advice that Caroline, the gardener gave us about visiting nearby places. The grounds of the college are really beautiful (We loved our view from our room) and we would certainly encourage our friends here is Australia to stay at Keble when visiting the UK.

Francis McLoughlin, July 2010: Room clean but slightly shabby - but what do you expect from a student room? Breakfast not quite as nice as I'd expected, but adequate. What a treat to stay in an another Oxford college - pity mine was booked!

S Hazeldine, July 2010: Very impressed but bathrooms could do with refurbishment

Pam Thomson, July 2010: Our visit was very enjoyable but black out blinds at the room windows would be a good idea as the light is very bright very early!

Nicholas Hancock, July 2010: Almost unbelievably good in every way, excellent accommodation and breakfast, kind and helpful staff everywhere from the porters lodge to the dining hall, and a truly impressive but relaxed and friendly ambience. We shall certainly hope to come again

Martin McManus, July 2010: Beautiful venue and great value for money.

Dr Chris Joyce, July 2010: I enjoyed the stay - my first in Keble since 1985! The room was rather basic, but adequate - and everything else excellent - so good overall vfm. I hope to use your service again soon.

Babette Wehen, July 2010: We had a great time at Keble College and are very thankful for the oppotunity at staying there. A wonderful experience! A comment on breakfast: great surrounding, offering and service! An offering of cheese would be great.

Mrs Sheila Marshall, July 2010: We had a wonderful visit to Oxford and our stay at Keeble made it even more special. The porters were extremely helpful in storing our luggage when we arrived early and also helping with phone calls to restaurants etc. The whole experience was most enjoyable and will be recommending it to friends.
