The Keble Experience

EARLY BOOKING DISCOUNTS NOW AVAILABLE FOR SPRING AND SUMMER 2010

We are pleased to offer accommodation in the comfortable student study bedrooms of Keble College, which are located around stunning tranquil Quads in our Grade 1 listed buildings designed by the Victorian architect, William Butterfield, as well as in our modern award winning buildings.

Whilst not equipped to four star hotel standards - no televisions or trouser presses - we can guarantee clean and comfortable bedrooms with tea & coffee making facilities, towels, toiletries, card operated telephones and free internet access points.

All of the college buildings, both Victorian and modern, contain bedroom accommodation. Due to the age of the buildings most of the Victorian rooms are awaiting refurbishing. However, we hope the spectacular views compensate for their "homely character".  Our more modern buildings have either been refurbished within the last few years or are being given a spruce up this summer.  Smoking is not permitted in any building within the College.

Rooms are assigned when a booking is received and we do try to accommodate specific requests so please let us know your preferences regarding which block you prefer when you make your booking.  Please note that we do not offer self catering facilities.

Ground floor rooms as well as lifts in our modern buildings makes us suitable for those with restricted mobility.  All rooms are serviced daily and our bed and breakfast rate includes a cooked breakfast served in our magnificent Gothic dining hall - the longest in Oxford.

History to the present day

Founded in 1870 in memory of John Keble, a central figure in the controversial Oxford Movement which sought to recover the Catholic heritage of the Church of England, Keble is one of the largest colleges in Oxford. Although the College has produced many notable Anglican leaders, it is no longer formally tied to the Church of England and no longer are the Fellows, or the Warden, beholden to an external Council of ecclesiastical worthies.

Keble now has over 600 students, both graduates and undergraduates who come from a great variety of social and educational backgrounds, and from diverse parts of the UK, Europe and further overseas. It is noted for both its academic and sporting successes and its music, notably the Chapel Choir, which is among the best in Oxford.

(A booklet, priced at £4.00, detailing the full history of Keble College can be purchased at the Lodge along with postcards and other Keble merchandise)

Dining and drinking

Our rates include an English breakfast served at your table in our magnificent Gothic dining hall - the longest in Oxford.

A two course set dinner, using fresh seasonal produce and prepared under the supervision of the College's experienced Executive Chef, may be available during vacations only at the special price of £9.75 per person including VAT. We offer a select list of wines as well as bottled water for sale to accompany your meal.

Bookings for dinner may be made in the Lodge when you check in but it must be prior to 3pm daily.  We are unable to accept advance bookings for dinner. However, if you would like dinner on the day of arrival, we can accept a telephone booking on the day.  Please call the Porters Lodge on 01865 272727 before 3pm to check availability and menu.  Payment for dinner will be taken on arrival.

The College Bar is a contemporary Grade 2* listed glass building nestled in the pretty Hayward Quad with indoor and outdoor seating.  It is generally open every day providing a relaxing space in colourful surroundings for guests to unwind after a busy day. Check in the Lodge for hours of opening.

Grounds and gardens

Keble boasts four delightful quads each with its own character and gardens.  From the Liddon Quad - one of the largest in Oxford - to the more intimate Pusey Quad.  Newman Quad with its herbaceous border and the Hayward Quad where drinks are served in the summer complete the quartet.

All have chairs and benches where guests can sit and enjoy the peace and quiet as well as the magnificent surroundings.

Other facilities

All bedrooms have an ethernet point for which a cable is required - available from the Lodge for a small charge.  We do not offer a WiFi network access.

Unfortunately we are unable to allow access to the internet during University Term - 13 April to 22 June inclusive.  Guests are welcome to use the computer in Cafe Keble during term to access the internet.

Telephones in rooms are card operated and the Lodge sells cards which may be topped up as required although any telephone charge card with 0800 access number can be used.

Arrival information and how to find us

Guests may arrive after 2pm and are asked to vacate by 10.00 am on the day of departure. On arrival please report to the Porter's Lodge (located at the main entrance to the college) where you will be given a key and directed to your room(s). The Porter's Lodge is manned 24 hours a day. Customer feedback

We guarantee that all our feedback is genuine and can only be submitted by people who have booked through our websites.

Dr Amani Bell, October 2009: We very much enjoyed our stay at Keble College. I recommend it to anyone who wants a brief experience of college life.

Gunar Kaune, October 2009: The room was okay for the price, but the breakfast in the dining hall an experience!

Karin Grönberg, September 2009: Thank you for a stay in historical surroundings with nice service and nice people!

Pia Larsson, September 2009: Perfect - I would like to come back with my family

Ulla Vainio, September 2009: Everything was fine. The bed was very comfortable and I slept very well despite some noise coming from the street.

Mrs.Cynthia Bamford, September 2009: 8 ladies came on my booking, we all experienced a wonderful 3 day visit to Keble university. Your staff in the lodge were so helpful and knew all the answers to the questions we asked. We have recommended the holiday to so many people! How lucky you are to be working in Oxford. Cynthia Bamford

Catherine Janzen, September 2009: My only complaint on the whole trip was that I don't like soft-cooked eggs and couldn't get a full fry-up with hard-cooked eggs. On the other hand, if that's the only thing wrong, life's pretty good! In general, we had a great time, the facilities were super, and the lodge staff very helpful. I would definitely come again. The students didn't seem to mind us, and we enjoyed eating brekkie with some of the mothers down for the exams. Excellent experience overall. Thanks.

vanessa f. lee, September 2009: Thank you for your hospitality, your service is always very consistent and we look forward to spending time at Keble College in the very near future.

Laura Huang, September 2009: Recently renovated -- Good. More or less up to the standard of a modern hotel, except for the lack of a television (which I did not want anyway). However, I don't know how you will be able to maintain this level of quality after a few years of intensive student usage. The lighting is only just sufficient.

Jonathan Lambourne, September 2009: Great stay, beautiful college, fantastic having breakfast in the magnificent great hall.

Sharman Minus, August 2009: A wonderful experience. Daily housekeeping with refreshed toiletries was a pleasant surprise. A malfunction of the shower was quickly seen to by a cheerful worker. My one suggestion would be to upgrade the toilet paper, which was a bit harsh. The cooked breakfast was a treat, and the two dinners I had in hall were as good as any mid range restaurant. The wine with dinner plus the bar drinks were at student prices, another treat. The proximity to the centre of town was marvellous. I never had to walk more than 15 minutes to get anywhere interesting, and as a solo female traveller I felt safe, even at night walking back after concerts. The whole atmosphere of the college, with its beauty, history and quiet, gives it that indefinable added extra with which an ordinary hotel or B&B cannot compete. My stay was memorable. I would definitely come again and will recommend it to others.

Christopher Blunt, August 2009: Superb. 2nd time at Keble and will definitely be coming back. Rooms nice and clean (even basic room). Wonderful staff and service is 2nd none. Plus the college grounds are fantastic.

Mrs Margaret Hall, August 2009: Having stayed in Keble College last year when our rooms overlooked the Hayward Quad student bar, I asked if it would be possible to have rooms this year overlooking the quad itself. Having requested this, we were really delighted to find on our day of arrival that our room request had been read and our rooms did look out over the beautiful quad. This made our stay this year even better - thank you so very much. We seemed to be the only two rooms being used when we were there and to have a bathroom each, was a real bonus. Thank you again - I would not hesitate to recommend your service, its brilliant!

Fay Wrixon, August 2009: It was lovely to stay in Keeble and everything was exactly as described. The staff at the Porter's Lodge were very courteous and efficient and we will certainly repeat the experience. Thank you to all concerned. Kind regards, Fay Wrixon

Mr Stephen Jackson, August 2009: Fantastic building (Keble College) made an otherwise pleasant experience really memorable.

Mary Wealleans, August 2009: I had a wonderfull stay at Keble College and would recomend the whole experience to anyone. I shall be booking all future visits through University Rooms. Thank you Mary Wealleans

Harriet Morgan, August 2009: Keble College is a beautiful space, albeit a different one by Oxford standards, and I loved looking out the window in the morning and evening. The suite fit our family needs perfectly and allowed our local friends to stop by our rooms, sit and talk. That would have been difficult had we opted instead for an extra bed fit into a hotel room, for the same price. The porters were helpful and the breakfast in hall was an added treat--I appreciated the wide selection of cold foods and the experience of dining in an Oxford college hall.

James Hampton, August 2009: Was very good - the Porter was extremely helpful. Breakfast service was also outstanding. Polite, helpful and generally an enjoyable experience.

kate seed, August 2009: I was extremely impressed with my visit and will be recommending to one and all.

Mr T.J.Herbert, August 2009: Attended Wedding of my son & daughter-in-law and the whole experience was superb and the standard of service first class. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and a special mention of Gerard the Hall Manager who was extremely co-operative. Many thanks

Alan Thompson, August 2009: We enjoyed our stay at the university very much . Thank you to all the personal who were always very pleasant and helpful

Mrs Kathleen McQuillan, August 2009: Keble College was an excellent location for our stay in Oxford to attend Graduation. A very peaceful setting and within walking distance of a good variety of restaurants and attractions. Breakfast in the great hall was a wonderful experience and sitting in the beautiful grounds was really relaxing. Our room was very comfortable, tidied, and provided with clean towels every day. It was very quiet at night so we were able to enjoy a good restful sleep.

Roger Emery, August 2009: Very comfortable and enjoyable. Wonderful to stay in the College and enjoy the beautiful surrounds (including the Chapel). Breakfast was excellent. Staff at the Porter's Lodge were obliging and very helpful.

annette emerton, August 2009: very friendly and helpful staff, made me feel at home.

Suzanne Wavre, July 2009: All good value for money when compared with usual price range in the UK.
